The World of Tomorrow (If The Internet Disappeared Today)

Wed design Glasgow Owner of Contact MultimediaThankfully someone thought about this and ran a little competition to find out what people would come up with.

Her’e the link to the site http://www.cracked.com/photoshop_90_the-world-tomorrow-if-internet-disappeared-today/

For those who have no idea what the winner got it for, this is a prank that has been going on for a while now where it’s a bit like the ring a door bell and run away stuff when you were a kid.

Basically this is the same idea using video and the internet, although you easily get caught since it’s your email address -DOH! It starts of with something that would be relevant to the person watching it, then out of nowhere Rick Astley shows up singing his song – you’ve just been Rick Rolled!

If you still can’t get your head around it here’s a link to a blog dedicated to it and one of the better videos (there many good ones on you tube) http://www.yougotrickrolled.com/vids.php

I really like some of the other interpretations on the site, I wonder what the world would have been like if the internet never exsisted at all, guess we’ll never get to know – long live the internet (or as my flat mate likes to call it the tinterweb)!

Spam Warning – HM Revenue & Customs – Notice of Underreported Income

This HM Revenue & Customs spam email is a little easier to spot than the last one but you have to know what to do.

The link that it has is the key to detecting that it is spam for this and actually many other spam emails. Hover over the link and you should see the actual address it will take you to appear in a little roll over tooltip. The important part is the main address.

Here’s what shows up for the first part: http://online.hmrc.gov.uk.cdstrdd.eu

now when you look at it you have to read it carefully as sometimes an ‘o’ is replaced with the number ‘0′ or ‘I’ with the number ‘1′ this happens a lot and there are many more like that. In this case though it’s the ending of the link the first part ‘http://online.hmrc.gov.uk‘ seems legit it’s the second part ‘.cdstrdd.eu‘ that makes it a dangerous link to click.

Basically this link will take you to a bad server. Everything else after that using the ‘/’ is for them to track or direct you to a specific piece of code that will then get you to download something, fill out a form that cleverly looks like the authentic form or add your email to more spam lists.

So be very careful when you click on a link in an email that is not from a trusted resource.

Beau Lotto: Optical illusions show how we see

This is a really interesting talk about optical illusions that will make you think about how we see colour.

The video summary reads:

Beau Lotto’s color games puzzle your vision, but they also spotlight what you can’t normally see: how your brain works. This fun, first-hand look at your own versatile sense of sight reveals how evolution tints your perception of what’s really out there.

Social Media – How does it all relate to your own website?

How does Search Engines, Social Media, Blogs, Directories, SEO, Articles, Video and Podcasts, Networking, Link Building, Newsletters (the list goes on) all relate to your own website?

I’ve had lots of clients that are confused by it all as they can’t figure out how it’s all related to each other. I have also attended a couple of network meetings that had some talks on the subject, these highlighted to me a need for a simplification of the concept. So I thought I would make a visual representation of the most popular abstract concepts.

The image below shows the main/popular methods and essentially how they can relate to your own website. There are many more options that could be added, but these are the ones mostly talked about by my clients.

One of the biggest realisations of the visual below is that Social Media is fast becoming it’s own form of a people and content search engine outside of search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing.

Social Circle - How it all relates to your website

Why don’t you make a comment on the post and I’ll try to update it if there is space or I’ll create a second one to cover the others, like say traditional marketing media (flyers, brochures etc…).

Are you a Self Control Freak?

Amazing Mashup

This video has been very cleverly put together using videos of other videos online. What this person does is create a whole new song from all these other individuals, just simply brilliant!

You might want to re-organise your jar!

I came across this in a very old email whilst doing some tidying and I wanted to share with everyone. I hope you get something out of it.

“A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with an unanimous ‘yes.’

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

‘Now,’ said the professor as the laughter subsided, ‘I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things—your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions—and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house and your car.

The sand is everything else—the small stuff. ‘If you put the sand into the jar first,’ he continued, ‘there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you.

‘Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your spouse out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first—the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.’

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor smiled. ‘I’m glad you asked.

It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there’s always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend.’”

If you know me, give me a call, we’ll get a coffee or two!

Funny Tech – Dear Tech Support

I got an email from Barry Adamson from Adamson Design who I see on a regular basis at the Small Business Club network meetings. His email that he forwared to me made me laugh so much that I just had to create a new section on the blog to accomodate it. I hope you find it as funny as I did.

If you have funnies like this please get in touch and I’ll give you a mention on the blog! If you know who originally created the jokes as well I’d like to put their name at the bottom too.

Dear Tech Support,

Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed Conversation 8.0 no longer runs, and Housecleaning 2.6 simply crashes the system.

Please note that I have tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these problems, but to no avail.

What can I do?

Signed,
Desperate.

DEAR DESPERATE,

First, keep in mind,

Boyfriend 5.0 is an Entertainment Package, while Husband 1.0 is an operating system.

Please enter command: ithoughtyoulovedme.html and try to download Tears 6.2 and do not forget to install the Guilt 3.0 update. If that application works as designed, Husband1.0 should then automatically run the applications Jewelry 2.0 and Flowers 3.5.

However, remember, overuse of the above application can cause Husband 1.0 to default to Grumpy Silence 2.5, Happy Hour 7.0 or Beer 6.1.
Please note that Beer 6.1 is a very bad program that will download the Farting and Snoring Beta.  Whatever you do, DO NOT under any circumstances install Mother-In-Law 1.0 (it runs a virus in the background that will eventually seize control of all your system resources.)
In addition, please do not attempt to reinstall the Boyfriend 5.0 program. These are unsupported applications and will crash Husband 1.0.

In summary, Husband 1.0 is a great program, but it does have limited memory and cannot learn new applications quickly. You might consider buying additional software to improve memory and performance. We recommend Cooking 3.0 and Hot Lingerie 7.7.
